Michelle Wie West Bounces Back from MC with a -2 Opening Round at the ANA

It was great to see Michelle back out on the course last week. We hadn’t seen her since the Women’s PGA in June of 2019, for multiple reasons. She struggled with injury, and gave birth to her first child in June of 2020. I doubt she cared about missing time from the later.

Her first appearance in nearly 2 years didn’t go as planned. She shot an opening round 81 (+9), and a second round 74 (+2) to miss the cut.

But less than a week removed from that rough performance, Wie came out and birdied her first 3 holes during the first round of the ANA Inspiration. She struggled off the tee, only hitting 5 of 14 fairways, but her putter cooperated. Michelle only needed 26 putts in 18 holes, while also converting both sand save opportunities. Highlight of her round came at the 10th, when she made this birdie putt from off the green…

Wie West has been one of the biggest names in golf since she was an up and coming teenager. It’s a joy to get to watch her play golf again, and hopefully she can follow up her opening 70 to get into the mix come the weekend at the ANA.
